CHAP

• Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) authenticates by encrypting a challenge string of random numbers with the user's password
  • Originally used by the PPP and PPPoE to validate users
  • Now often used with RADIUS
• MS-CHAP is Microsoft's version
  • Uses a different hash algorithm
  • Allows each party to authenticate the other
