- Developed after WEP was proven vulnerable
- TKIP provides encryption/MIC
WPA Authentication Modes
- All WPA methods support two authentication modes
- Personal mode
- A Pre-Shared Key is used for authentication
- The PSK is not sent OTA
- A four-way handshake is used for authentication, and the PSK is used to generate keys
- Common in small networks
- Enterprise mode
- 802.1X is used with an authentication server (RADIUS/TACACS+ etc.)
- All EAP methods are supported
